Bike Enthusiast

My latest thing is volunteering at running races. Since I've been sidelined from running because of Stress Fractures in my feet --- I have been doing more biking. This weekend I'm an escort for a 15K bike race -- Stockade-athon. Should be fun --- I get to ride in front of the lead runners and just behind the police escort. I'm kind of excited about it --- will only be two of us.

DH is probably volunteering as a course marshall --- also an interesting job -- but more standing around. I love biking and this will help keep me in shape having to stay ahead of the runners.

Crystal Lake Triathlon

I am doing the Crystal Lake Triathlon this weekend. It is sprint distance .5 mi. swim, 18 mi. bike, and 5K run. I will be walking the last part --- still recovering from a stress fracture in my foot. (Darn feet).

After that we fly to Hawaii on Sunday for 15 days. I hope it is wonderful --- Hawaii will be --- I just want us to have a good time also --- and we're staying someplace new (hotel) -- I prefer the condos. We'll see how it is.

New Puppy

We are the proud parents of a new puppy Feta. She is very cute and very fun. She is also very good tempered. Not like her "Dad"....LOL. It was pretty much my idea since hubby is home more now that he got a DWI and cannot drive --- except 3 hrs a week and back and forth to work once a week (or if scheduled).

Long story on the DWI --- just stupid. And costly. The dog is working out very nicely --- she is a love. My hope is that it will also help hubby get over his loneliness and get him out walking more often --- taking the dog with him.

We had one of our worst fights ever just a few weeks ago --- while traveling to NH.....it was really ugly. I actually video'd a bit of it -- have kept the video --- I'm not sure he realizes that I have it or how bad it was. I'll keep it for future reference if he acts up again. or When he acts up again.

I'm sure that all of this is my moodiness ( he thinks it's menopause).....could be related...but not as far as I'm concerned.

For now --things are pretty good --- and everyone is getting along and the work on the house is progressing nicely.

It happened

Well, it finally happened --- he got a DWI!!! I've been warning him every time they do "lunch" which last 5 hours not to drive. Well this month (once a month lunch) he drove and got his truck stuck in a snowbank. While trying to get the truck out (we have AAA) someone must've alerted the police.....they came and arrested him. He was quite embarrassed -- devastated actually --- and so was I. Now we are paying one thing after another --- fines, fees, etc. Next the insurance is bound to go up. He is losing his license for 6 months --- only a Conditional. The list goes on.

Lent is about to start and I am giving up drinking during the week. Did this last year and felt great!!! I need to do this for myself. He mentioned that he might do the same --- one night --- but last night was back to just giving up swearing. Big deal.

That's it for now .... In the meantime we are redoing our family room --- it looks beautiful --- we have both done a lot of work. I'm hoping to keep him motivated --- he will have a lot of time on his hands.

Better Times

We are doing better these past couple of weeks --- no fighting and when we have been on the verge --- talked things thru. I hope this continues.

I haven't been drinking during the week -- maybe this helps --- less argumentative. I've also gotten back into running more and x-bike classes which really help my stress level. Hubby is working a bit more also, which he seems to enjoy.

Don't want either of us to get too tired over the holidays --- we are traveling to Houston on Christmas day --- so need plenty of rest. Trying to keep the stress level down.

Good Support

I Finally did the full marathon on Sunday!!! Yippee!! I'm so excited -- I did what I set out to do which was run a marathon before I turned 50!

I had very good support --- I didn't get the best training in -- my own fault -- but did have hubby standing by to keep me going. He met me several times on the course with candy, food -- water --- plus there was good support on the course with water and gatorade. It was a slow race for me but I had a good time.

I hope to be a little faster next time with a bit more training.

More of the same

Well, things were getting better for a little while on the drinking front --- hubby never actually went one day without anything -- but was down to about two drinks a night instead of the customary 3-4. That WAS an improvement.

The last couple of weeks have gotten worse --- he has been going out to lunch on wednesdays more often and every one of them was a total drunk. And then he drives. It is not far -- but someone could get killed in just the first 100 yds. He would also lose his job with a car company --- which I'm sure he would hate.

Tonight I am going to try to bring this up and make some points --- see if he does any better. I'm not very hopeful at this point. In the meantime, my step-son has quit drinking -- and he had a serious problem also.
