September 11, 2010

One of the best days of summer - I was in Newport staying at a Wyndham - decided to take the Block Island Ferry over to Block Island (that is redundant I know) - for a 15K race (running) that I had entered. It was a picture perfect day - sunny, breezy and about 75 degrees. Once on the boat - a little early was seated on the top deck next to two guys - Mark and Paul - we started chatting a little on the way over. Hit it off right away - and they asked when we disembarking what Ferry I would be taking back - 5:00? Yes. They would too. They were heading there for the first time, so asked me a little about the area. We talked about camping at Fisherman's Memorial State Park also. They were very interested in that --- great campground.

I went and ran my race - walked a few times - very hilly! I hate hills. LOL. They went to the Lighthouse at the South side of the island and walked around town - and had a picnic lunch they told me. After the race I walked around town - but not for long - didn't have much time before boarding. Once on board I looked for them and they looked for me -- we met and sat together again. Talked about our day -- and talked, and talked - it is an hour ride. They invited me to join them in Newport for dinner -- I was thrilled. Felt like a teenager out on a hot date. Ran back to my hotel - showered and dressed quickly - met them down on Bannister's Wharf.

We hugged -- greeted each other then walked a little to a place called the Landing. Had a wonderful dinner - bottle of wine - and talked, and laughed a lot. We exchanged emails and said we would all keep in touch. They were from Salem, Ma. - two of the nicest guys - intelligent, good looking, and fun to be with. I can totally understand their attraction to each other as I found them to be very attractive as well.

Back to the date - it was the Anniversary of Sept. 11 - which we talked about visiting Ground Zero - and our own experiences that day. It was a bit of a remembrance, and at the same time the day was one of the best - 2010 - for me. Thanks to my new friends.

Sailing Season coming to an end

Well - it is September and the boat has been sailed once so far this season. By me, alone. This was one of the best summers on record weatherwise - and since my husband and I are splitting up - maybe one of the worst for us. We only got up to the boat to put the sails on - then after deciding to split - he spent a week there - at the dock - and I spent a few weekends getting away up there. One of which - I took the boat out for a pumpout - waste - and then went for a sail. Beautiful - one of the best experiences of the summer for me.

Now that the weather is changing it will be more difficult to spend time there - but hope to get a few more weekends in before the sails come down and the boat comes out of the water. One of the few things that we have agreed to is that we will share ownership of the boat and dock for now - have to get something written up - it is valuable to both of us.
